During the sixth ordinary session of the National Council of Morena, a letter sent by the president of the Republic, Claudia Sheinbaum, was read, in which it emphasizes that the party should not become a state party or allow links with crime, “neither organized nor white collar.” In his message, Sheinbaum clearly differentiated the role of government and the party, noting that each one must fulfill their function responsibility.
The president reiterated that Morena’s strength is in her popular organization. “The organization is for transformation,” he said, emphasizing territorial work, base committees and direct contact with citizens. He stressed that the party must be consolidated without resorting to corporate structures, but with close work “house per house delivering the newspaper regeneration.”
Claudia Sheinbaum asked militants to act “honesty, humility and simplicity.” In his letter he condemned the ostentation and luxuries, noting that “the paraphernalia of power is from the past of corruption and privileges.” He added that it is not part of the movement to use private helicopters, carry branded clothes, or surround yourself with bodyguards and armored vehicles, nor eat in luxury restaurants.
The president also urged legislators to avoid the use of public resources to attend international events that do not have a clear justification. He indicated that such trips must be fully justified by an “indispensable task”, not to do political tourism at the expense of the treasury.
Sheinbaum was emphatic in pointing out that Morena must eradicate practices such as influence, friendism and nepotism. In addition, he proposed that the party adopt in advance, from 2027, the constitutional restriction that prevents immediate candidacies to relatives of elected officials until 2030.
In his message, Sheinbaum recalled that governments arising from Morena must be distinguished by their commitment to republican austerity and their constant link with the people. He reiterated that the party should not lose sight of its origins, since that could move him away from his purpose.
With a call to ethical commitment, Sheinbaum stressed that “the end never justifies the media” and warned that losing the principles can be irreversible. He urged militants to act with integrity and remember that honesty must be reflected even in the way of doing politics.
Finally, he asked not to trust or lower his guard. He stressed that the present and future of Mexico are at stake and that Morena must remain faithful to the values of the fourth transformation to consolidate a political project with legitimacy, ethics and course.
