The journalist Alejandra Giraldo, recognized for her career as a presenter of news Caracol, explained in the last hours the reasons that have kept her away from the news during the last weeks.
Through a shared video on her Instagram account, the communicator went directly to her followers, who had been expressing concerns for her prolonged absence.
Giraldo, who has been one of the visible faces of the news for more than seven years, clarified that his temporary retirement is not due to a renunciation or a professional change. In addition, he assured that he continues to be part of the ‘News Caracol’ team, a project that described as a personal goal fulfilled since its inception in journalism.
As he said, before absent from the news, he lived a complicated health episode. In January she was diagnosed with a strong arthritis picture, a symptom related to an autoimmune disease she suffers.
The episode was, in her words, “incapacitating”, which led her to temporarily retire from her work. Under medical recommendation, it was necessary to make a work pause to focus on your physical recovery.
“The doctors told me that it was not fine so that it will not continue advancing, so my bosses when I count it in the most supportive and committed way, because I had to incapacitate,” said the presenter.
During the same video, Giraldo explained that, once the most critical phase of his condition has been overcome, he agreed that he should attend an international commitment previously agreed. She was invited to present an event in Hong Kong, a trip she decided to extend to take vacations with her husband.
The presenter clarified that this plan was already planned since the beginning of the year and that it became an opportunity to make a personal and work pause.
“We seemed very convenient to my husband and me that, since we were in this part of the world, because we took vacations, that is the part that was inside our plans,” he said.
The combination between medical disability and vacations generated, as recognized, multiple messages by the public. Some of his followers even thought that he was no longer part of the news.
“I have received an amount of very loving messages from people who ask me why I have been so absent,” said Giraldo, pointing out that he considered appropriate to make his explanation public to avoid more speculation.
Currently, he is traveling through Asia and has shared some images from that continent. In his message, Giraldo expressed confidence that this pause will contribute positively to his recovery, and said he hopes to return to ‘Caracol News’ in the next few days, once he concludes his rest period.
The journalist thanked the support he has received and stated optimism in the face of her health process. He said he feels accompanied and backed by both his close and channel environment.
At the close of his message, he left open the expectation of a soon return to the news, reiterating that his current priority is to be able to continue his journalistic work.
