- The initiatives include universal crib room, greater access to housing for families with children and social benefits will be expanded.
- GES guarantees will also be extended to fertility treatments to facilitate families access to these procedures.
Presidential candidate Evelyn Matthei presented on Saturday a comprehensive proposal that includes health, housing and labor supports to give greater security to those who want to train family with children and encourage the birth of more children in the country.
In an act in the Park of the Sculptures, in Providencia, accompanied by families, Matthei explained that the Universal Cuna Chamber will extend to all working women, eliminating the restriction according to company size. The project currently in Congress will be unlocking and improved to expand its coverage, increase the amount of the benefit and incorporate parental co -responsibility.
A lease support pillar will benefit young families with children under 2 years of vulnerability, facilitating access to transitory and stable housing solutions. The definition of public interest housing will incorporate into the middle sectors, expanding the scope and equity of housing access.
In addition, social benefits will be expanded for families with children.
At the health level, GES guarantees will be expanded to fertility treatments to facilitate families access to these procedures.
“We want a child in Chile to be a possible, safe and desired project. We want couples to not have to choose between forming a family or following their professional development. We want those who decide to have children feel that the country accompanies them, that the State supports them, and that society values them.”Matthei said.
The candidate was accompanied by Senator Paulina Núñez; the deputies Ximena Ossandón, Paula Labra and Natalia Romero; the mayors Carol Bown, Camila Merino and Catalina San Martín; and the spokeswoman Francesca Parodi, in addition to members of the work teams.
In 2024 there were 20% births less than the previous year. According to the INE, the percentage of women between 15 and 49 who have children went from 70.7% in 1992 to 56.6% in 2024.
Studies point out that Chile is one of the countries where birth is more quickly. If 10 years ago 20,000 children were born in a month, today there are only 11,000.
“This is a silent, but deep crisis that affects our projection as a society. And if we want a country with a future, we have to face this challenge today”, Matthei said.
“Children are not a problem: they are future. And if we face this crisis today, Chile will have a more fair, more human life and above all something that only children can do. Fill us with energy, joy and life”he concluded.
