The confidence of the Chileans registered a significant increase in April, recomposing part of the March fall, but maintains a pessimistic trend in the evaluation of the current economic situation.
The leading IPSS market research company launched its latest report “Consumer Trust Index” (CCI), where the perception of more than 21 thousand people in 29 countries was collected to measure the level of optimism of consumers in relation to the situation of local economies, personal finances, savings and conditions to invest.
After a fall in the previous month and despite the volatility caused by US tariff measures, consumers’ trust recovered slightly in April. The consumer confidence index reached 43.1 points (on a scale of 0 to 100), increasing 2.3 points compared to March and 0.3 points above April 2024.
Anyway, Chile remains pessimistic, as it remains in 23 out of a total of 29 at a global level, while comparing with the rest of the countries evaluated in Latin America is the second country with the lowest perception of confidence.
Among the four sub-slows that make up this indicator, the one that highlighted was the confidence in the current economic situation, with 2.9 rise points compared to the previous month.
In the breakdown of questions there is an increase in the capacity for savings and investment, the purchase in relevant issues such as the house and the car. The second category with greater confidence is that of investments, which accumulated 2.7 points compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, the third corresponds to economic expectations, in which people expect that in the future their local economies will be stronger, adding 7.2% compared to March.
When observing trends in the last twelve months there is a different scenario than registered in April. “Three of the four sub-slows record minor increases, with” work “as the highest (+0.6 points), showing a slow but progressive stabilization of the labor market. On the other hand, the subscript of” expectations “is 0.3 points below the record last year on this date,” said Nicolás Fritis, Country Manager of Ipsos Chile.
World scenario
Worldwide, consumer confidence had a drop of 0.5 points, standing at 47.7 points, with falls in each of the areas evaluated. The current economic situation is the worst evaluated, with 38.1 points of 100.
The country that leads the trust ranking is Indonesia (61,1), followed by India (59.8). On the other hand, in Latin America there are mixed signs with respect to trust, with casualties in Peru (-2.4 points), Argentina (-2.0 points) in contrast to the increases in Chile (+2.3 points) and Brazil (+2.2 points).
