From the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in July 2023 —During the UE-Celac Summit in Brussels-both parties have advanced in the construction of a solid alliance to develop sustainable value chains around key raw materials for the green and digital transition.
This memorandum, signed by the European commissioner Thierry Breton and Chilean Chancellor Alberto Van Klaveren, in the presence of the President Gabriel Boric and the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyenfocused on cooperation in research, innovation and environmental sustainability.
Giving continuity to this milestone, in November 2024 a Bilateral roadmap with the Ministry of Mining of Chile. This document operates the MOU and defines five key axes of cooperation: diversification of supply chains, R&D, sustainability criteria, capacities development, and enabling infrastructure.

Chile participates with a pilot in Minera Hasparren, along with cases in Spain, Finland and Poland.
The Satellite monitoring of the Salares of the Lithium Triangle Based on Copernicus, led by the Copernicus program and the University of Chile, which seeks to evaluate the environmental impact of lithium extraction.
