The project that modifies the appointment system of the Judiciary continues to cause discrepancies in its discussion, particularly in the Constitution Commission of the Chamber of Deputies.
Two milestones have marked the processing in the last sessions: that in the instance the matrix idea of the initiative will be rejected, which just establishes the appointment Council and the visit of the Venice Commission.
In the last session, the international advisory body highlighted the relevance between the balance of the State’s powers in the designations.
However, Next week the processing of the appointment system will continue.
Appointments in the Judiciary
The deputy of Democrats, Miguel Calisto, does not see conflict in reopening the debate with respect to the article of the appointment system, to give the proposition viability.
“I do not see any inconvenience to reopen the debate with respect to the first article A of the appointment system, and thus, allow a text to be approved that allows continuing with the debate in this reform, which is tremendously important (…),” said the parliamentarian.
The deputy of the FA, Javiera Morales – who was one of the votes against the creation of a Judicial Appointments Council – indicated that the initiative has viability, because the rejection of the articulated has to do with the role of the Senate in the process, not allowing to advance “towards a more transparent system”.
Morales added that in 80% of the proposal there is consensus, and that regarding the participation of the upper house in the designation, he said that the formula of lowering the quorum is explored.

“It is important that the government make a decision if it wants to promote a true reform of the Judiciary or not (…),” said the legislator.
