Miami (USA), May 5 (EFE) .- Colombia defense Minister Pedro Arnulfo Sánchez, made a visit to the southern command of the United States (Southcom) on Miami-Dade County, where he held meetings with the US Navy Admiral, Alvin Holsey, commander of the unit, and other high military commanders.
During the meeting, leaders discussed the strengthening of bilateral defense cooperation and joint efforts to promote regional security in Latin America and the Caribbean, according to a statement.
The visit reaffirms the strategic alliance between the two countries, especially in the fight against drug trafficking and other transnational threats.
The United States and Colombia maintain a solid and prolonged cooperation relationship on security issues, according to the command.
For decades, the forces of both countries have collaborated closely in joint military exercises, humanitarian assistance missions, professional exchanges and security operations aimed at combating regional threats.
Colombia is a firm partner and a leader in the fight against security challenges in the region, underlines.
Minister Sánchez’s visit to the South Command underlines Colombia’s continuous commitment to hemispheric cooperation and leadership in initiatives that seek stability and development in Latin America.
The southern US command, based in doral, a city in southern Florida, is one of the six geographically focused unified commands of the country.
It has under its responsibility the American military operations in the Caribbean, Central America and South America, in addition to cooperation in security with military and public security forces in the region. EFE
