The Italian cyclist Matteo Malucelli (XDS-Estana) won the Sprint in the eighth and last Stage of the Turkey Tour 2025, played this Sunday between çesme and Izmir (Karsiyaka) on a 105.7 kilometers route. The day, with a broken profile and marked by numerous attempts to escape, was finally resolved in a massive arrival in which Malucelli beat Alexander Kristoff (one-X Mobility) and Giovanni Lonardi (Polti-Visitmalta). Wout Poels (XDS-Estana) crossed the goal without complications and was proclaimed final winner of the 60th edition of the Ottoman round.
Malucelli finishes the work of the XDS-Estana
From the first kilometers, the squad lived an intense day, with multiple attacks and a high rhythm. A escape formed by nine runners, including Alexandre Balmer, Zeb Kyffin and Metkel Eyob, encouraged the central part of the route, reaching almost two minutes of advantage. They would later join Tibor del Grosso (Alpecin-Deceuninck), winner of the second stage, who managed to link with the escapes in the second half of the route. However, the constant work of the Lotto, Polti-Visitmalta and Picnic-Postnl teams ended up neutralizing the last escaped in the absence of 3.5 kilometers for the finish line.
In the final sprint, launched 400 meters by one-X Mobility, Alexander Kristoff initially took his head, but was surpassed by a very rapid Matteo Malucelli, who was awarded his first partial victory in this edition of the Tour. The Spanish Marc Brustenga (Kern Pharma) was fourth, signing an outstanding performance in mass arrivals throughout the week.
Wout Poels, champion of the Turkey Tour
The general did not undergo changes in the last day. Wout Poels (XDS-Estana) was proclaimed champion of the Turkey Tour 2025 after a solid performance that included victory in the queen stage and consistency in the key days. The Dutch ended with 16 seconds of advantage over his partner Harold Martín López, winner of the sixth stage, in a luxury double for the Kazakh team. The podium was completed by Colombian Juan Guillermo Martínez (Picnic-Postnl), 58 seconds from the leader.
“I knew it was in good shape but winning the general is always special, so I am super happy. I think the team did a great job to defend the general and also win the last stage is the icing on the cake. The sensation has been very good, it is a great achievement of the team,” Poels said after the last stage.
Abel Balderstone (Caja Rural-Rga), which concluded the round in fourth position at 1 minute and 9 seconds, was the best Spanish in the general classification. Ibón Ruiz (Kern Pharma), Tenth, and Jon Agirre (Euskaltel-Euskadi), which ended among the fifteen best after a very regular tour.
