While everyone thinks of two favorites, a threat outsider. Neither Roglic nor Ayuso: “We go to win it, not to be fifth.”
While the level of the Italian turn seems high compared to other years, the absence of the untouchable Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard opens the door to almost anyone can win it. And that moves to statements such as the ones they did in the last hours.
It is that the greatest favorites, people like Primoz Roglic or Juan Ayuso, have shown eventually cracks, so it is not impossible for an outsider to crowns. It already happened at the time with Jai Hindley or Tao Geoghegan Hart, and now in Lidl Trek they dream of Giulio Ciccone’s bell.
“It’s better than ever,” said the manager, Luca Guercilena, to IDL. “We go to win it, not to be fifth or sixth,” the Italian warned about his pupil, 11th in the Tour de France 2024 and recent 2nd in Lieja Bastoña Lieja.
“If it remains strong and competitive as until now, and it remains progress, it will have all our support,” he completed. In that sense, the alignment will feature several men to surround it in all the ground, although in the mountain there will only be two: Verona and Konrad.
The painting is completed by Daan Hoole, who seems to leave the team, the recovered Soren Kragh Andersen, Jacopo Mosca, the brilliant Mathias Vacek and the great star, Mads Pedersen. A solid formation to take several partials, although insufficient for Ciccone to win – as its pattern says – the turn.
