Tallahassee, Florida – state senator Jason Pizzo, who recently proclaimed the Florida Democratic party “dead” yesterday to resign the game, said Friday that he will run for Chief as independent in 2026.
Pizzo has been insinuating for months that he planned to copulate a career to succeed the Republican Chief Ron Desantis, who cannot be appropriate again to the term limits.
The Miami state senator was preferred as a Democrat and had become the Senate Democratic leader, but dramatically announced his departure in a speech last month in the cobblestone of the Senate in which he punished the Democrats. Pizzo, who has often been Manido as a centrist and has sometimes faced himself with the progressive wing of the party, then changed his official record to the affiliation of non -partisanship.
The former leader of the Democratic Senate told CBS Miami on Friday: “Yes, I am,” when they asked if he was planning to assert. He argued that many “excited” people had contacted him after finishing his affiliation with the Democratic Party, and pointed out that independent voters constitute an important part of the state’s electorate.
“The NPA decide who won the elections in this state, and there are 3.7 million of them,” said Pizzo, referring to voters who officially appear as an affiliation without matches.
When he was contacted by Politico, Pizzo said he was prepared to highlight his differences with the candidates of the main parties.
“All others who are already in the chief mixture have severe and prohibitive luggage, or vast limitations, in leading this state,” Pizzo said in a text message. “I am focused on continuing to be the known ethical, informed, honest and rational server that I have always been.”
Florida has not preferred a boss who is not a Democratic or Republican candidate in more than a century, and the Republicans have dominated the state since Jeb Bush won his second campaign for the boss in 1998. DESANTIS crushed former chief Charlie Crist in the 2022 media with a conquest of almost 20 points.

First Lady Casey Desantis has been considering jumping to the race, but has not taken firm steps to do so. Chief Desantis in early April told Fox News to “be attentive” and suggested that an answer would come after the legislative session ended in early May. The session, without retention, is currently in an extra time convenient for a current budget stagnation between the Chamber and the Senate.
A DESANTIS-DONALDS career could create a deep loophole in the Republican Party of the State, and some of them have already developed in series when DESANTIS supporters attack repeatedly in Donalds.
Pizzo, meanwhile, made his announcement to change the party the same day that former representative David Jolly announced that he was changing his registration of members of affiliation to non -split to the Democrats. Jolly has also started a political committee that he could use to help him run as a democratic candidate for the boss.
The assembly of an independent candidacy without volunteers and party structure could be a steep pizzo rise. But Miami’s lawyer is also very rich and could afford to satisfy television ads and other costs related to the campaign with his own pasta. He told the Democrats last year that he had “$ 25 million to go” for a 2026 race.
