The director of the McLaren team, Andrea Stellahe believes that his rivals in Formula 1, Red Bull, are inventing a “narrative” that suggests that they get miracles when they fight for poles and victories this season.
Max Verstappen achieved his third pole position of 2025 with that of the Miami Grand Prix and will try to turn it into a second victory of the course to stay in the fight for a possible fifth title of consecutive pilots.
The Dutchman has been able to keep the duo of McLaren formed by Lando Norris and Oscar Piestri so far, despite the generalized recognition that the team of Woking He has the fastest car on the grill.
But for Stella, the theory that Red Bull is staying far behind in the battle for the head is pure theater.
“Red Bull are very good doing fast cars, they are very exceptionally good I would say driving fast cars and are extremely good also creating the narrative in their favor,” he said.
“All possible opportunities exploit to stay in the competition and some of those opportunities are sometimes creating the narrative of: ‘Oh, we are doing miracles here, others should win lead all training sessions, classification and career’.
“But that is the narrative created by some of our competitors that we read from time to time and then pass page, and we focus on ourselves and when we focus on ourselves we look at the numbers, we look at the facts, we look at what we should be improving and there is much we should be doing better.”
“So for me, when I look at the facts I also see what Lando and Oscar achieve and do it quite consistently, so well, well done Red Bull, even in terms of the way they manage their non -technical opportunities …”, he finished off how those of energy drinks go from lantern.
Norris will come next to Verstappen in the first row in Miami and, when Motorsport.com asked him at the press conference after the classification about whether his friend and rival was taking more advantage of the Red Bull than him and Piestri in a superior McLaren, he replied: “It is impossible to know what car he has compared to us. The advantage is that we have two fast pilots and they do not.”
“We have a car that is capable of allowing pilots to drive faster, but it is impossible to know, impossible to really know the difference between the two cars.”
