Mexicali.- The Welfare Commission, children’s rights, youth, people with disabilities and older adults directed by deputy Michelle Tejeda, unanimously approved initiatives that comprehensively attend two priority sectors: on the one hand, the full and effective participation of people with disabilities is guaranteed; On the other, the right to mental health of youth is promoted through psychological care mechanisms.
During the face -to -face session, the project for the opinion related to the Disability Reform Initiative was approved, presented by the state governor, Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda, whose purpose is to guarantee the human rights of persons with disabilities, promoting a social care model that drives their disinstitutionalization, autonomy, community inclusion, equality and non -discrimination.
In this regard, Michelle Tejeda recognized the governor’s work for presenting a comprehensive and transformative initiative in favor of the rights of people with disabilities. “Today we see an initiative that reforms five key laws and that will directly impact the lives of people with disabilities, their development, their public participation and dignification,” he said.
He stressed that legislating from this perspective not only transforms the lives of those who live with a disability, but also that of their families and caregivers. He emphasized that these reforms are a firm step to settle a historical debt with this sector of the population, demolishing institutional barriers that have limited their full development for years.
The Morenista legislator also highlighted the importance of the changes proposed in the Law of Prevention, Treatment and Control of Addictions, by pointing out the need to review the operation of the rehabilitation centers and prevent them from being used as exclusion spaces for people with disabilities.
The second issue analyzed and ruled by the Commission corresponded to the proposal of the legislator Michel Sánchez, in the sense of establishing in the State Youth Law the attribution of paying psychological attention to young people, in person, by digital means and by telephone line.
The deputies and deputies Dunnia Montserrat Murillo, Jaime Cantón, Gloria Miramontes, Adriana Padilla and Angélica Peñaloza also participated in the session.
