Since last April 25, the temporary exhibition hall of the Elche Contemporary Art Museum (MACE) The individual exposure of the sculptor Moses Gilentitled Conscious States, everyday episodesan artistic proposal that addresses, from the plastic force of the human figure, the intimate, social and existential episodes that make up our day to day.
The renowned sculptor Moisès Gil, professor of the Department of the Facultat of Belles Arts de Sant Carles (University Politècnica de València), presents in this exhibition a series of works that reflect on the body as a symbol of everyday effort and as a place of tensions, resistances and affections. In his large sculptures and formal expressiveness, the artist represents the contemporary human being trapped in dehumanized environments, subject to dynamics of emotional and social wear.
Moisès Gil is a consolidated figure in the international sculptural panorama, with more than fifty individual exhibitions, presence in international fairs and samples (Paris, Berlin, Florence, Seoul, Shanghai, Mérida de Yucatán …), works in museums in Europe, Asia and America, awarded 18 international awards for sculpture and a constant activity as a commissioner, critical and cultural advisor.
In the words of the author himself: “I avoid the grandiloquent to stop me in everyday life, in what affects the human being from the most intimate and personal. My tense figures, of marked muscles, symbolize that continuous effort to which we are subjected every day.” The sculptor raises a powerful and critical aesthetic, where formal expressiveness dialogues with the collective experience of the viewer. “David against Goliath in the jungle of cement,” as he defines, in clear allusion to the dehumanized spaces of the present.
As Fernando Castro has pointed out (The country), “The sculptor answers with his space configurations makes the viewer reflect on the existence of the human being in post-technological society.”
And for Mª Teresa Mosque (Yucatan newspaper): “His sculptural work is a study where he approaches the human being, discovering the magic of transforming his ethereal world into something physical that reports a fresh vision and full of strength to the current sculptural panorama.”
