There are several years that Juan Pablo Raba has been living in Los Angeles in which he has worked to reach films and series in English to show, far from Latin stereotypes – and particularly Colombian – that good actors can do any kind of paper with professionalism, talent and delivery.
And now the opportunity to shine in the famous American television series came to him LAW AND ORDER: UVEwhich is already going for its season 26 and in which hundreds of large international stars have acted. Juan Pablo Raba arrives at an episode (on the 17th this season called Accomplice Liability) also directed by the acclaimed Argentine filmmaker Juan José Campanella.
Raba plays a defense lawyer named Andre Vaughn, a key character within the episode narrative.
The Colombian spoke with Raba about this experience and what he can mean in his career as an actor.
How do you get to this lawyer?
“The third is the defeated. This was the third time they had tried to have me in the show. Previously for a theme of calendars, we could not do it. Everything comes a little from the concern that their writer David Graziano and I worked in a series called Coyote And we last a long time trying to collaborate together. He told me that he had a character for me and just in those days we were riding the play Breathe With Cristina Umaña and had another film in the Colombian Pacific too, but I said yes and between we had to operate Joaquín (her son) for a respiratory theme, the assembly of the work and the filming in Malpelo, do not ask me how, but all the planets aligned. And I went to New York to do this chapter because I told all my classmates: ‘I can’t look bad at my friend at this time.’ ”

“When the scenes send me, I feel very moved because it moves away from what they usually caste, it completely moves away from what is usually the Latin stereotype.”
Is that it does not even notice that it is Latin …
“Exactly, it is the life of the United States, a country full of people from everywhere who occupy positions such as doctors, police, lawyers, etc. and there is no need for their inheritance to be some protagonist form of history. I deeply appreciate this opportunity because I think these are the roles that somehow tend bridges.”
Juan José Campanella is a director who knows very well Law and orderHow was the experience with him?
“A dream come true. The son of the bride It is one of the most important films of my life. It will always be in my top ten and then, of course, it is The secret of his eyeswhich is also my wife’s favorite film, then working with someone you have admired so much, for so long, it is a gift, it is a huge gift. And if it is also Juan José Campanella, with the personality of Juan José Campanella, with affection, with goodness, with control, with knowing how to make his trade in this way, with directing from calm, from empathy is 10 times better.

Andre is a lawyer who has a lot of Parliament, how did he prepare this role?
“I understood from the beginning that it was a great challenge, that an imposing machinery arrived and that I had to comply. You have to arrive on time with the letter learned because nobody expects anyone. The actors who have been there for 26 years know their letter perfectly. Then you have to get to your position. Chamber and action. I called my coach. I have a coach in the United States, it is called Mark and with him I worked a lot, I made this character very well studied.
