The Eternaluta It is Netflix’s new success. At the date of this publication, the science fiction series based on the graphic novel by Héctor Germán Oesterheld ranking The most watched within the platform. But fever for Argentine production has had unexpected side effects: They reactivate the search for the author’s missing grandchildren.
From geologist to writer. Let’s start with the first, who was Germán Oesterheld? Born in the City of Buenos Aires in 1919, Oesterheld was received as a graduate in Geology. Despite his field of study, he published his first work at 24 in a local newspaper. For the middle of the 50s he founded his own publisher and in 1957 his top work saw the light: The Eternaluta.
From novelist to rebel. Despite the success of which today is considered the first graphic novel in Spanish, for the 60s he ended his publications and about ten years later he joined the known group Los Montoneros. Political activism became a priority for the author and began its fight against the persistent dictatorship in the South American country.
The four daughters. For those years, Oesterheld already had four daughters with his wife Elsa Sánchez. Unfortunately, each of them, like his father, were kidnapped and disappeared because of Argentine military authoritarianism. In June 1976, at 19, Beatriz was the first victim. Diana, Marina and La Major, Estela followed. Of whom his tragic final arrived in 1977.
Lost children. Here comes the tragic-intrigant part: Diana and Marina Oesterheld were pregnant at the time of their respective kidnapping. With his father and couples as prisoners, it was not known what was the children during that conflict. Now, thanks to the success that the series has had, again we seek to find them to let them know who their mothers and grandparents were.
The search. Through a publication in X, the National Network and Daughters for identity and justice against oblivion and silence (children) has given rise to relaunching the Oresterheld’s grandchildren’s search campaign. It is estimated that Diana’s grandson could have been born in November 1976 and, to stay alive, she would be an estimated age of 48.
“Are you looking at the Eternaluta? If so and you were born in November 1976 or between November 1977 and January 1978 and you have doubts about your identity or that of someone who was born at that time, contact yourself.”
The survivor. Although the whereabouts of the infants who were born from Diana and Marina are unknown, a grandson of the family continues alive. Martín Oesterheld was raised by his grandmother, Elsa, after the disappearance of his parents. With everything and the tragedy, his grandfather’s legacy continued when he dedicated himself to the arts. Now, serve as a creative consultant of the program live-action.
The curious fact. After all this journey, there is still a paradoxical element that surrounds both The Eternalutalike the Oesterheld family. Within the project, Ricardo Darín highlights as the protagonist Juan Salvo, but in 2019 he participated in the historical drama Argentina, 1985. There, he gave life to prosecutor Julio César Strassera who, precisely headed the trial of the military boards of the dictatorship.
