The Government of announced the gradual reduction of the week until arriving in January from 2030 to 40 hours a week, the Secretary of Labor Marath Bolaños announced .

Within the framework of an act for Labor , Bolaños stressed that as of June 2 and until July 7, the Government will convene several sectors of the country to shape that proposal through tables.

Then the announcement, President Claudia Sheinbaum clarified that this labor reform “cannot be done overnight.”

Currently, according to the Federal Labor Law, the work week consists of 48 working hours distributed in up to 6 business days with at least one day of rest with enjoyment.

A few hours before the announcement of Bolaños, thousands of workers and members marched on Paseo de la Reforma Avenue and other important streets in Mexico City to demand, among other demands, the right to housing, better salaries and the possibility of worthy retirement.

“We have always asked for better working conditions for workers, peasants, for teachers, for all: it is a way of protest,” Benito Collantes, a retired who participated in the march, told CNN.
