Valencia is a city that appears at the top of many ranking at European level as one of the best places in the world to live. … The weather, the size or its disposition in the territory make the Cap i Casal a perfect municipality to carve a future. However, as in any other big city, not everything is pink. And it is that the capital of Turia faces the challenge of finding solutions for a growing problem such as withouthogarism. In at least half a dozen points of the city there are nose nuclei that sleep in satin or in tents.
One of the critical points of the city is undoubtedly the old channel of Turia. The provinces already published this Friday that the number of stores that camp in the gardens that cross the city exceeds the hundred. The presence of vegetation, its different height with respect to the rest of the city, and the coverage provided by the bridges, serve the destitute as claim to spend the nights. The Water House, also located in the old channel, is another of the points where the homeless people come, since it is an abandoned building for years.
However, this reality goes far beyond the old channel. Valencia has some areas where settlements are fixed. This is the case, for example, of the sea and the old parking created for formula 1. There, a chabolist camp has been installed for more than a year and the booths are already part of the environment. The same happens in the San Marcelino neighborhood, where there are at least two similar settlements, next to the new area under construction known as Turianova.
However, as explained from the Sensellar entity, which accompanies and advises homeless people, the presence of these settlements is very changing. From the platform they indicate that the frequency of police or cleaning equipment patrols in which areas causes its existence to be cyclical. As an example, they indicate that many of the people who accompany have ever slept around the supply market, where groups are created. At certain times of the year they leave the place because the police pass more frequently, and in others they return when the voice of the little police presence is run.
Other usual points are in areas close to the headquarters of organizations that help homeless people. In Ciutat Vella, for example, the Social Attention Center for Ceiling (CASC) and the Immigration Care Center have its very close places. In its surroundings, it is very common group campaign aspects, especially in empty plots of Carmen. From Sensellar they affirm that these venues are access doors to temporary resources, so they attract the attention of many homeless people, who decide to camp near them.
From Sensellar, they also indicate that currently one of the points that accumulates more homeless people is under the Giorgeta bridge and next to the Central Park, where the platform has accounted for 40 and 50 people.
Finally, in other neighborhoods of the city such as Zaidía -in Sagunto Street -, or in the center of the city such as the surroundings of San Agustín and Guillem Street in Castro, the presence of smaller groups is also usually common. Although, as indicated again from Sensellar, these areas are usually more guarded and the cleaning agents or patrols withdraw the belongings of the homeless, and they look for new areas where to spend the night.
