Mexico City. Counselors of the National Electoral Institute (INE) pointed out that this body has no powers to cancel any candidacy of the judicial election, since the review of applicants files touched on the three evaluation committees, one for each power of the Union, not to the Institute.
In a weekly table, the directors studied the issue and- in a rare event- all agreed that the constitutional reform and electoral law excluded them from the candidacy registration process.
Asked about it, the Minister Norma de la Cruz said that the president of the INE, Guadalupe Taddei, received trades of different applications which will be officially answered in the session of the General Council on Thursday of this week.
“We are going to give the response forms and it is also important to point out that it is very curious that in these trades they ask us to cancel records. And it is very important to highlight all citizens that in this process the INE did not make records (therefore), we cannot cancel them,” he said.
Another thing we have to put in perspective, he added, is that we are talking about 26 cases (mentioned by the Senate of the Republic of alleged irregular candidates) of 3,414 candidacies in total that are on the ballots.
“How good that measures are being taken that (some) do not meet the requirements (but) the Senate left as the bridge between the committees of the three powers of the Union, to send the information (of candidates) to the INE,” he said.
So “it is not the same as they tell us: ‘INE, they no longer play’ they ‘ineat them of the game’; we cannot do that.”
He recalled that while the INE will review the issue in a second moment, this will be after the day of the election and once the results of the suffrage computations are taken.
Since last week and until June 15, the INE will have opened a mailbox or microsite fugitive from justice.
Then, said the counselor of the Cross, “the data that the Senate of the Republic will take them into consideration.
The Reform Decree establishes that the INE, in the second moment referred to, will have to review eligibility and also that the election is joint.
“Among the things we are going to review, and that is why the mechanism we made of the ‘8 of 8’ is not only that you meet the requirements but that you are not in any of these cases and that you have not had a sentence,” he said.
That is, the analysis that the INE plays is before issuing majority records (winners), as well as possible resignations to the candidacies, which has an impact.
He recalled that the judicial election tickets are already printed and these days are arriving at the electoral districts for distribution to box officials.
Therefore, the counselor added, “at this procedural stage we could not respond positively because even the design of how records were made and all supervision did not touch us.
