Efforts to correct, suppress or suppress sexual orientation, identity or gender expression (Ecosig)also known as’Conversion therapies‘, are an act of physical and psychological torture against the people of the LGBT communitysince they consist of violations and electroshocks, among other cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment.
Therefore, in March of 2024 the Congress of the Union approved the opinion that prohibits and sanctions with prison sentences who promotes and makes the so -called conversion therapies throughout the national territory.
However, it is necessary that each state legislate on the subject, not only to approve the prohibition but to mark the guidelines and sanctions in accordance with its local regulations.
According to the Yaaj organization, dedicated to the defense and promotion of human rights of the LGBT community, so far 19 states already legislated and approved the prohibition of Ecosig.
-“At the federal level, the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic have approved with a significant majority this law, which was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on June 7, 2024. Therefore, all congresses have to prohibit this phenomenon adapting their regulations to local realities and facilitating access to justice for victims and their families,” said the collective.
According to information published by the Organization, the reforms known as the #Nadadaquecura Law have been approved in the congresses of: Baja California, Baja California Sur, Mexico City, Colima, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Morelos, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tlaxcala, Yucatán, Yucatán, Zacatecas.
The group indicated that the opinions have been presented in the respective congresses of Aguascalientes, Campeche, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit, San Luis Potosí, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Veracruz.
However, he stressed that in most these states the analysis of the opinions are detained. Likewise, the Chiapas Congress is the only state that refuses to touch the issue.
