Tatooine is a fictional planet of the Star Wars film saga and its name comes from the Tataouine Tunisian region, where in 1976 some scenes of the movie “The War of Galaxies” were rolled. It is basically known for fans of the saga not only for being the planet where Luke Skywalker grew and the birthplace of his father, Anakin Skywalker, but also because it is a totally deserted planet, full of pedregous and arid dunes and lands, due to the presence of two soles.
Recently, to the Vray Large Telescope telescope (VLT), located in the Paranal Observatory in our country, discovered a rare planet that orbits two soles to 120 light years of our solar system.
As reported by The Wall Street Journal, the Exoplanet, called 2M1510, perpendicular orbit two twin stars, which make up a true rarity for its unusual characteristics. However, in this case, these are two brown dwarfs – also known as “failed stars” – since they do not reach the necessary temperature to sustain the nuclear fusion of the hydrogen.
Amaury Triaud, an astronomer from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom and co -author of the study on the discovery of the planet, said that the discovery was made totally casually by the team operating the Vray Long Telescope in the north of our country.
“We were not looking for planets at all, and boom! We found one,” he said, while Keivan Stassun, astronomer from Vanderbilt University, said that “the system is unusual for several reasons, any of which would already be strange by itself, but they do so extremely strange.”
