They had all kinds of problems behind the cameras, so they changed plans in the continuation
You may not remember it, but before Rachel Zegler was widely criticized for being white on the recently released tape and because Gal Gadot, the stepmother, was more beautiful than her – thus controlling the rules of the classic story – there was a practically the same case around the story of the Grimm brothers.
In 2012, Kristen Stewart already faced strong criticism when he starred Snow White and the hunter’s legend Together with Charlize Theron, in charge of being Queen Ravenna. There were those who said that the beauty difference between one and the other was abysmal and that they did not hit the casting much. However, Stewart fulfilled his role and the tape ended up earning 396 million dollars.
It was a success, but behind the cameras there was enough drama. In summary: Stewart put Robert Pattinson’s horns with the director, Rupert Sanders, and were caught by the paparazzi. Sanders, in turn, was married and with two daughters. A bad streak for both that, fortunately, did not affect the economic result of the tape. It was so well received that Universal Pictures developed a second part, this time without Sanders or Stewart.
The sequel was announced very shortly after the premiere of the first film and, although at first Sanders claimed to be interested – he said it was great doing the first part – and Stewart was going to appear on the tape, finally neither one nor the other participated in the project. She, who separated, reconciled and separated again from Pattinson, simply declined the proposal to make a cameo. He, as we say, was apparently struggling for his marriage, but ended up divorcing the same a few years later.
The fact is that Universal had to get ahead with a second part that only shared the name with its predecessor. Instead of Stewart, The Snow White Chronicles: The Hunter and the Ice Queen had a Chris Hemsworth as the protagonist in the role of an exceptional warrior and former freya hunter. The result was a monumental failure that could barely recover the money he had invested.
Universal Pictures
The tape has a 35/100 in Metacritic by critics and a 5.2/10 based on the note that users give it. Entertainment Weekly He described it as “The cinematographic equivalent of a glaze covered cake”. While some pointed out their visual value and the work of the stellar cast, many maintained that it was “unnecessary”, among their various defects.
And see that he had a good team to have done something better. The script of the sequel is written by Craig Mazin, whom we all know today for their work as creator of The Last of Us -And previously, Chernobyl-. And the cast was composed, in addition to Hemsworth and Theron -who resumed his character -by Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain, Nick Frost and Sam Claflin. A fairly powerful set that, however, failed to match the magic of his predecessor.
