According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor and producer seeks to take a narrative turn to the mutant universe with a different proposal, where Wade Wilson will not be the center of attention, but a secondary character that gives way to other mutants.
After the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, a film that paid tribute to the mutant universe of Fox, Reynolds has made it clear that he is not interested in a fourth solo installment of the character. Instead, he works in a story where three or four X-Men could take prominence, allowing them to shine in new and surprising directions.

“If he becomes an Avenger or an X-Men, we are at the end of his trip”he commented during his participation in the Time 100 Summit.
Possible mutants and return of known faces
Although there is still no official confirmation about the cast, it is speculated that Cynthia Erivo, protagonist of Wicked, could play storm in the future of the MCU. In addition, actors such as Channing Tatum (Gambito), Patrick Stewart (Professor X) and James Marsden (Cyclops) have been linked to upcoming appearances in Avengers: Doomsday, which suggests that the mutant multiverse is more alive than ever and could be key in this new production.
Without Marvel support, but with total creative freedom
The project leading Reynolds is in the development stage without Marvel Studios direct supervision, a strategy similar to that used to boost the previous films of Deadpool. The goal is to find a story that is worth presenting, before involving Disney executives.

Reynolds, more producer than actor at this stage
In addition to this ambitious mutant plan, Ryan Reynolds is rewriting Boy Band’s script, a paramount comedy in which Hugh Jackman could participate.
The actor has affirmed that his priority is production and writing rather than acting: “I am more passionate about telling stories than for acting”he said.
This creative pause also coincides with his attention to legal issues related to his wife, Blake Lively.
