Elvis Presley’s car-guitar has come to auction on Ebay, where the current bid is at 10,000 euros. A unique opportunity to get a 12.5 -meter length car that will surely need a deep restoration, because the owner has confirmed that the engine does not work and the photographs allow us to observe that the body is also very touched.
This car is actually a 1970 Cadillac Eldorado. It is a personal project of Jay Ohrbergwho worked on him for two years before he gave it to Elvis. The King of Rock led him less once to reach one of his concerts in Las Vegas and the car ended up somehow in southern France, where he has been at least the last decade. Now, its owner has decided to get it off.
They may not know Ohrberg, but surely they know their creations: the DeLorean of the saga ‘return to the future’, the batmóbiles of ‘Batman’ and ‘Batman Returns’ and KITT of ‘the fantastic car’ were all of his creations. They were more or less modified, but all these projects went through their hands before becoming icons of the small and the big screen.
More than half a century ago, Ohrberg invested two years of his time in modifying a Cadillac Eldorado to make him a car worthy of Elvis Presley. The result is a 12.5 -meter length vehicle made of fiberglass and equipped with a huge 8.2 -liter V8 engine, which implies that in optimal conditions it is a functional chassis, although it completely escapes the legality to circulate on open roads.
The images that preside over these lines are what the current owner has used in the announcement of EBAY and allow observing multiple signs of deterioration. The fiberglass of the body is touched, the wood of the mast and the strings of the guitar have disappeared and its engine does not work either, because the owner specifies that the vehicle “is not rolling and needs a renewal.”
Whoever has the money, the time and space to work in this beast of 12.5 meters in length is until Saturday to decide to participate in the auction. It is a full -fledged DIY project, because the person who bought will have to invest thoroughly to return all his glory.
