The wait was long, but it was worth every minute. 16 years passed since the last time the lice stepped on Mendoza, and last night, in a Greek theater Frank Romero Day absolutely full, they sealed their return with an unforgettable ritual for more than 40 thousand people. It was an epic three -hour show, loaded with national rock, collective memory and an overflowing energy that transcended ages, styles and geographies.
The band of El Palomar, led by a Andrés Ciro Martínez in a state of grace, connected with its audience as if the time had not passed. And while some purists missed the original formation, the powerful sound, the delivery and the intact mysticism ended up imposing themselves. The emotion was shared: from the historical fans who revived their adolescence to new generations who lived their first great piojoso pogo.
One night for the history of national rock in the province
The appointment was punctual: at 21, the stage lights lit and began the parade of classics that marked an era. During 27 songs – with moments of explosion and others of pure emotion – the lice erased the 16 years of absence from a stroke. Cyrism, charismatic and on at 57, showed why it is still one of the most magnetic frontman in the country.
From “Only” to “Maradó”, going through “Summer of ’92”, “Water”, “Cruel” and “Media Caña”, the repertoire toured all the stages of the band, lighting an audience that chanted each letter as if it were a prayer. The closure was apotheosic, with a Frank Romero Day turned into a sea of arms raised and an ovation that lasted several minutes.
The historic theater, accustomed to the harvest party, tunes and odes to the immigrant, vibrated this time with a visceral rock that rumbled in every corner. “More and more things bind me to Mendoza,” Ciro said about the end, moved, remembering his desire – expressed in several visits as a soloist – to return to that stage with his lice. The dream, finally, was fulfilled.
A federal and fervent
The expectation was felt in the air for weeks: the tickets were exhausted, the stage had leaked in networks and the lice fever was already unstoppable. Fans from all over the country began to arrive from noon, in cars, micros and combis that parked as they could among the hills of the San Martín General Park. The access was not simple, but ordered, thanks to a logistics that lived up to the event.
Outside, around the theater, a parallel party was lived. Food stalls, drinks, shirts, vinyl and commemorative patches completed a rocker fair where the 90’s classic looks lived with the current versions of Rolinga 2.0. Lice of several generations were mixed with respect and joy: parents and children, old friends and new fans. The scene was a federal and fraternal postcard.
“Look what this is, son”: the most anticipated reunion
An excited forty summarized everything with a phrase addressed to his little son: “Look what this is.” That scene was repeated hundreds of times among those who lived again – or lived for the first time – the intensity of a lice recital. Many of those had been in the mythical show of the “spring piojosa” of 2002 or in that recital in Malargüe in 2007. Others had only seen them on YouTube. But all, without distinction, understood that they were being part of a moment that will be recorded in the history of Argentine rock.
