Soneja’s music shines with force again. The Soneja Musical Union has obtained the first prize and honor mention in the second Section of the 46th Provincial Music Bands Contest of Castellón, held on Sunday, May 4, at the Auditori de Castelló. In this edition, marked by the commemoration of the 125th anniversary of the band, the sonjero set achieved the highest score of its history in competitions, reaffirming its excellent artistic moment.
The contest, which annually organizes the Diputación de Castellón, brings together bands throughout the province divided by sections according to their number of musicians and interpretive level. In the Second Section, the Soneja Musical Union faced two outstanding formations: the Castellnovo Musical Artistic Society, with whom they share a region in the Alto Palancia and that reaped a second prize with a final result of 310 points and the Musical Union Lira Borriolence, of Borriol. The competition consisted of the interpretation of a presentation pasodoble, a must and a free work.
The sonejera band presented the Pasodoble ‘125 years of emotion’, composed of David Modrego Latorre, musician of the band born in Soneja and who leads a lifetime in the group, the piece is a tribute to the long career of the Musical Group. He then interpreted the obligatory work ‘arrived from the sea and the terra’ by Pedro Sanz Alcover, and closed his performance with the demanding ‘Symphonie pour Orchestre d’Irmonie’ of the first leg Gotkovsky, a free piece with which they demonstrated their technical and expressive level.
The victory adds to a solid trajectory of successes in provincial, autonomic and international competitions. In 2015, they obtained the first prize and honor mention in the first section of the same contest, and have similar awards in the 1996, 2005, 2009 or 2011. At the head of the band is Fran Amado Vera, its director since January 2023, who has contributed to renew and consolidate the musical project of the group.
The Soneja Musical Union, officially founded in 1900, today has more than 240 partners, a music school with 50 students and a great involvement in the cultural life of the municipality. The City of Soneja and the entire community have expressed its pride and admiration for this collective achievement that exhausted local musical talent once again, recognizing their work, talent and honor of representing the people with such pride. The success of this weekend is, without a doubt, one of the best ways to celebrate 125 years of musical history.
