Chile Government condemns Israel’s decision to expand military operations in Gaza

Santiago de Chile, May 5 (EFE) .- The condemned “firmly” on Monday the decision taken by the Israel Security Cabinet of expanding its operations in Gaza and denounced that, if specified, it would imply “a flagrant violation” of international law.

“Chile also recalls that a new forced displacement of the Gazatí population would constitute a crime against humanity in accordance with the Rome Statute,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

The Executive of Progressive Gabriel Boric, a recognized defender of the cause, also expressed “his firm rejection” to the new humanitarian aid distribution plan announced by Tel Aviv, “initiative that contravenes fundamental humanitarian principles,” said the note of the Foreign Ministry.

The Israeli cabinet approved a scheme with which it intends to resume humanitarian aid access to Gaza, which Israel blocked since March and approached its population more and more to famine. With this decision, Israel seeks to prevent Hamas from having access to the aid that enter the strip.

With about 500,000 people, Chile houses one of the largest Palestinian communities outside the Arab , although it has always the rupture of diplomatic relations with Israel.
