Zelenski asked Trump for new sanctions against Russia

The president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, said that his recent meeting with former US president Donald Trump, they approached the possibility of imposing new sanctions against Russia. The meeting took place on April 26 in the framework of Pope Francis’s funeral in Rome.

“I think I had the best conversation with President Trump of all we have had so far,” Zelenski said in kyiv, according to the agency Ukrinform. “I raised the question of American sanctions. I will not go into details, but what he said sounded very powerful,” he added, leaving open the possibility of a hardening of economic measures against Moscow.

In addition, the president referred to the recent and controversial economic agreement between the United States and Ukraine, which must still be approved by the Ukrainian Parliament. According to the Head of State, the agreement includes 15,000 million dollars of aid in 2025 and a similar figure by 2026, although part of that money could be advanced this year as a contribution to the investment fund for reconstruction.

Zelenski also dismissed the 72 -hour truce announced by Russia on the occasion of the anniversary of the end of World War II. “It is to agree anything in three days.
