The Minister of Emprego, Commerce and Emigration, José González, accompanied by the territorial delegate of the Xunta in Vigo, Ana Ortiz, and by the General Director of Commerce and Consumption, Gabriel Alén, presided today the extraordinary meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Vigo Fair Institute (IFEVI) to address the current situation of the enclosure. In this context, the Ministry appealed to the need to continue advancing in the road map led by the Xunta de Galicia to continue empowering it and urged an urgent response to the City of Vigo and the free Zone with respect to the pre -agreement achieved in November 2024, in order to prevent the situation enclosure.
In statements prior to the meeting, the head of Employment reiterated the maximum will to collaborate by the Xunta with the City Council and with a free zone, always thinking about the best for Vigo and Galicia and urging the need to continue moving forward and not wasting more time. Along the same lines, he stressed that the other two administrations must specify will already be signed the pre -agreement to what the three parties arrived in November 2024: “The position of the Xunta is very clear. We reached a principle of agreement, in which the three administrations would be on the foot of equality within the Board of Trustees, which they must decide already want to formalize or not.” What is clear, he influenced, is the will of the Xunta to continue advancing in the enhancement of the Vigo Fairgrounds.
last year he moved to Conxamar – one of the strategic actors related to the IFEVI – the need to prepare a functional plan to enhance the fairgrounds. In this context, Zona Franca made the public offer to invest 18 million euros in exchange for entering the IFEVI Board of Trustees, later celebrating a series of negotiations that led to that principle of agreement, yielding from the Galician government to all the conditions required by the City Council and the Free Zone.
CONTRADICTORY POSITIONING OF THE CITY COUNCIL
González lamented the positioning of the City Council, to which “in these last two weeks we are listening to contradictory statements and imputing falsehoods when the only one that was done is to put objective data of the IFEV accounting”?
In relation to the content of the pre -agreement, against the contribution of the 18 million euros of the Free Zone, both Xunta and the City Council committed to contribute the soils, real estate and facilities that they have in the fairgrounds and also, if in this potentiation it is necessary to exceed 18 million that would bring free zone to enter the Board of Trustees, all the subsequent contributions in this new Unanimity decisions.
In this sense, José González insisted that it is a clear and consensual pre -agreement, with figures that are official, of investments collected in the patronage accounting. At the same time, he stressed that the autonomous administration continues with the hand laid and that “it will not enter any sterile debate or controversies that move away from the objectives of dynamization of the IFEVI.”
Today’s meeting of the IFEVI Board of Trustees gives continuity to the contacts that the autonomous executive has leading and maintaining with all the parties involved in favor of promoting this strategic infrastructure for the economy of Vigo and Galicia.
