The 35 -year -old publicist, who was involved in a controversy due to her last relationship with former mayor José Luis Bohórquez, whose election was declared void, was presented in the elections under the same flags of the outgoing local president: the government coalition, the historical pact.

President Gustavo Petro celebrated the victory of Ingrith Rocío Bernal Mejía in the atypical Duitama elections, highlighting that this result represents a reaffirmation of popular support towards the historical pact. Petro made reference to the judicial attempts that, according to him, sought to delegitimize the coalition through what he described as “Lawfare.”
In his message, the president also condemned the dismissal of former mayor José Luis Bohórquez, whom he considered the “legitimate mayor”, noting that this action represented a violation of the rights of the people of Duitama, by preventing him from freely choosing his authorities. Petro considered that the repetition of the elections in the city was a victory of the people, who again showed his support for the political project he represents.

The former governor of Magdalena, Carlos Caicedo who has supported President Gustavo Petro on several occasions, also decided to dedicate a publication of his X account to congratulate the new mayor of Duitama.
