During the A Americas Vaccination Week (SVA), 74,011 people from the 12 Provinces of Freedom were immunized against different diseases, a figure that places it among the ten regions that completed their objectives 100 % and, in addition, exceeded its individual goal that was 72,243, the Regional Health Management (Geresa) reported today.
“We had the commitment to remain one of the leading regions in vaccination and we achieved it, in line with the policies of the Regional Freedom Government. This achievement reflects the commitment to the protection of the population against preventable diseases”said the Regional Health Manager, Aníbal Morillo Arqueros.
He pointed out that the number of immunized will continue to increase because the vaccination day will run until May 10, in order to guarantee complete coverage in all districts and provinces.
Morillo said that the vaccination day was developed from April 26 to May 3, 2025, in the context of the SVA, a public health strategy promoted under the regional motto “Vaccination for all!”, Which seeks to ensure equitable access to biologicals without distinction of age, condition or place of residence.
Strategies
During this week vaccination for all age groups was strengthened by offering the complete immunization scheme that includes 18 vaccines that protect against 28 diseases, including diphtheria, tetanus, measles, polio and hepatitis B.
Among the strategies implemented, the mobile vaccination points, the deployment of brigades in educational institutions, markets, community spaces and difficult access areas, both urban and rural, in addition to house -by -house vaccination.
Likewise, it worked in an articulated way with social programs such as Pension 65, Together, Cuna more and glass of milk, as well as with local governments, public institutions, media and civil society organizations.
