India launches a missile attack against Pakistan and scale the tensions between the two nuclear powers

At least seven people died, including two children, after a missile attack that the Indian Army launched on Tuesday against several goals in Pakistan and the Kashmir area controlled by that country, according to Pakistani military sources to the BBC.

Pakistani television said that three different points had been attacked, while the Indian government indicated that there were nine objectives of this military offensive that they described as “limited.”

Pakistan’s prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, condemned the attack through a statement in which he referred to India as “the treacherous enemy” who had made a “cowardly attack” that “will not happen without being punished.”

Military Sources of Islamabad specified that the attacked territories are Bahwalpur, in East Pakistan, and Muzaffrabad and Kotli, in the Kashmir administered by this country.

These are actions that show an increase in tensions between these two nuclear powers that maintain a rivalry that has lasts for decades.

An Indian army spokesman confirmed to the BBC that three civilians died in the Kashmir area administered by India.

The Indian government said that its forces carried out the “Sndoor Operation”, attacking infrastructure in Pakistan and in the Kashmir administered by Pakistan, from where, according to Delhi, terrorist attacks have been planned and directed against India.

“Our actions have been concentrated, mesurned and have not targeted an escalation. No Pakistani military installation has been attacked. India has demonstrated considerable moderation in the selection of objectives and the execution method,” said the Indian executive in a statement.

A Pakistani army spokesman said that Islamabad “will respond at the time and place he chooses.”

“All our combat planes are in the air. This is a shameful and cowardly attack perpetrated from India’s airspace,” added the spokesman.

The Indian army later said that Pakistan had fired artillery against Bhimber Gali, a town in the Ponch-Rajauri area, in the Kashmir administered on India, just on the other side of the dividing line.

India’s armed forces are responding properly and calibly, the Army said in an X publication.

The Pakistani authorities announced the closure of the airspace of the regions where the cities of Lahore and Karachi are located, which affects several important airports, including the Islamabad International Airport.

At the same time, several Indian airlines announced the cancellation of flights to the back managed by India and some cities in border states such as Rajastán and Punjab.

The president of the USA, Donald Trump, asked about the conflict, replied that “it is a shame.”

“We learned just when we entered the oval office (…) I just hope it ends soon,” he added, from the White House.

On the other hand, the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, declared himself “very concerned” about Indian operations, while the UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric asked “the greatest military moderation by both countries. The world cannot have a confrontation between India and Pakistan.”

Delhi specified that he ordered the attack after the deadly militant attack last month against tourists in the Kashmir administered by India, which ended the lives of 26 people and has caused a serious deterioration in the relations between both neighbors.

India accuses Pakistan of supporting cross -border terrorism, something that Islamabad denies.

Kashmira, a mountainous region south of the Himalayas system, has been the reason for a long conflict – and two wars – between both nuclear powers.

The problems began in 1947 after the partition of India, ancient British colony, when the United Kingdom agreed to divide it into two countries: Pakistan and India.

But the one who was the principal of Kashmir was out of that division and, since then, he is disputed by both countries.

After a first war, both countries agreed to draw a control line and divide the territory into what is known as “Cashmiro administered by India”: the Jammu and Kashmir region, and “Kashmir administered by Pakistan”: the northern territories and sugar knife.

What happened this Tuesday is a dramatic escalation between two rivals with nuclear weapons.

Although there were expectations that India could launch some type of military action, the intensity of missile attacks within Pakistan surprised many.

India states that some of the sites that bombarded were linked to militants and that were not target Pakistani military facilities.

Pakistan has promised reprisals, and their nature and objectives will determine Delhi’s response.

Both countries believe that they can manage climbing, but the tension is increasing and it is difficult to predict the course of any military conflict.

In the past, the United States and other countries have intervened to control them.

While the Trump administration approach will be on other sides due to other problems of the globe, it remains to be seen how quickly Washington will intervene to seek the situation.

The political leaders of both countries will want to show their audience that they have acted with decision and proclaim their victory.

They have assumed a huge bet.
