The director of the FBI, Kash Patel, published a photo on X on Friday night of Wisconsin Judge who was arrested for allegedly obstructing immigration agents, while he was handcuffed and was escorted to a vehicle by agents.
The photo of the judge of the Milwaukee Hannah Dugan County Circuit does not teach his face, but the sample being escorted by three law agents in a “frog march”, as this walk is known. Patel’s photo says: “No one is above the law.”
According to the confidentiality policy and contacts with the means that appears on the website of the Department of Justice, its staff “should not voluntarily disseminate a photograph of a defendant unless it fulfills an application function of the law or less than the photograph either part of the public registry in the case.”
The former Secretary of Justice Eric Holder, who implemented the policy during the Obama administration, worked during his mandate to make it difficult for the media to obtain photos of the defendants, such as those of police chips.
Holder told CNN that Patel’s publication publication violates this policy.
“Whatever the problems with the judge’s performance, they are trying to maximize intimidation,” Holder told CNN.
It is not clear, after the publication of Patel in X, if the current Secretary of Justice, Pam Bondi, has changed the conduct policy for the personnel of the Department of Justice with respect to the photos of the accused.
“The arrest is the point,” said Craig Mastantuono, Dugan’s lawyer, CNN in an interview. “It is a clear deviation from politics. There was no threat to public security. He was not given the opportunity to present himself and offer his version of the facts.”
Dugan was arrested by the FBI on Friday and faces two charges for obstruction and hiding an individual from the arrest by concealment of a person in the face of his detention. Dugan had an initial appearance in court on Friday and was released after the hearing.
The FBI has not responded to comments on the director’s publication.
