Andrea Kimi Antonelli, from Mercedes, surprised by scoring a turn of 1m26s482 on the SQ3 of the Sprint classification and claimed to leave from the best position on Saturday in the Sprint race of the Miami Grand Prix.
The Italian pilot became 18 years in the youngest pilot to lead a classification session -Sprint or not- in the history of F1.
Oscar Piastri, from McLaren, will complete the front row of the output grid after finishing 0s045 from the Tour of Antonelli, while his teammate, Lando Norris, was third to exactly one tenth of the top.
Max Verstappen had to settle for fourth place in the Sprint classification, at 0S255 from Antonelli, followed by George Russell, who had until now surpassed his Mercedes partner in all the classification sessions of the season.
The Ferrari of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will start from the sixth and seventh position, respectively, while Alex Albon (Williams), Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls) and Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) completed the first ten places.
