The government of Peru and Brazil are accelerating the construction of a modern train that will link the Chancay megaport with the port of Santos, in Brazil. The project, backed by a Chinese investment of $ 3.5 billion, seeks to create a logistics corridor that facilitates the transport of goods and enhance foreign trade in the region.
The train will travel about 3,755 kilometers, connecting the port of Santos, on the Atlantic coast of Brazil, with the coastal region of Peru. The route will pass through several Brazilian states, such as Mato Grosso, Goiás, Rondônia and Acre, and key cities in Bolivia before arriving in Peru by milestone 4, a border point in the Amazon jungle.
The objective of the project is to turn the Chancay megapuerto into the epicenter of intercontinental transport, speeding up trade between America and Asia. In addition, it will help China to diversify their shipping options and reduce their dependence on the Panama Canal.
Project studies will begin this year, And the first section in Peru will be the one that a city of Pucallpa, in the jungle, with the Peruvian coast, specifically with the port of Chancay. The initiative is part of the central bioceanic corridor, an infrastructure project that seeks to connect Brazil, Bolivia and Peru through a railway network.
