The instrument was signed in Saudi Arabia by the Peruvian Chancellor, Elmer Schialer, and by the general secretary of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (CCG), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi.

“Saudi Arabia was the scenario of consolidation in bilateral relations between Peru and the Gulf countries,” said the Peruvian Foreign Ministry before highlighting that Peru has become the first country in the region to formalize an instrument of dialogue with the CCG, which integrate Saudi Arabia, BARÉIN, KUWAIT, OMAN, QUAN, QUÁN, QUÁN.
In that sense, Peru and the CCG adopted an ‘action plan’ with joint priorities and strategies to increase trade, investments and cooperation in strategic areas.
During the meeting with the general secretary of the CCG, Schialer also proposed to initiate negotiations for a commercial agreement between Peru and the block.
The Peruvian Foreign Minister highlighted his country’s ability to play “a crucial role” in the CCG food security programs, as well as “the fundamental role” that countries exercise “as regional connection points, thanks to their modern and extensive ports and their strategic geographical location.”

The visit to Saudi Arabia
During the second day of his visit to Riad, Schialer was accompanied by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Jorge Montero, with whom he held an encounter with the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal Bin Farhan to the Saud.
The authorities reviewed the bilateral agenda, as well as the multilateral issues of common interest, the Foreign Ministry said.
In that sense, the Saudi Chancellor “valued as a central element the prompt subscription” of the General Cooperation Agreement that both countries are negotiating, while Schialer promised to accelerate that process.
During the day, a meeting was also held with the Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources of that country, Bandar Alkhorayef, before whom the Peruvian ministers presented the investment possibilities in the mining sector in Peru.
Schialer began last Sunday a tour of Catar, Emirates United Arab, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, as part of an official visit that sought to strengthen the presence of his country in the Arabian Peninsula.
“The general balance of Foreign Minister Schialer to the Gulf countries, after an absence of more than fifteen years, is extremely positive,” said the Foreign Ministry in his statement this Thursday.
