The vice president of the Republic, Álvaro Elizalde, together with the Minister of Public Works, Jessica López; the Undersecretary of Crime Prevention, Carolina Leitao; the presidential delegate of the Metropolitan Region, Gonzalo Durán; The general director of Carabineros, Marcelo Araya, and the mayor of Peñalolén, Miguel Concha, headed in that commune the delivery of works of the San Luis sub -commission.
The police, whose construction was initiated during the government of President Gabriel Buric, is part of the Infrastructure development portfolio for the security of the Ministry of Public Works, which involves the construction of 99 projects nationwide with an investment of more than 335 billion pesos.
With 3,855 million pesos financed by Carabineros de Chile, the subcommissioning will have 40 officials, thereby benefiting more than 60 thousand neighbors and neighbors, who until now only had a checkpoint of just 243 square meters. The new building is 2,300 square meters and contemplates a habitability, mobilization and logistical support area, in addition to a security zone (armory, recognition room and detainees) and external works.
In this regard, Vice President Elizalde stressed that “this is a sample of the investment that is being made to improve the infrastructure available to the institutions that are in charge of criminal prosecution, and particularly Carabineros de Chile, in the challenge we have to raise security standards.”
“Where we put the words, we put the actions. And this is a country challenge, which must have the contribution of all political sectors, of all sectors of Chilean society, because building a safer Chile is to improve the quality of life in Chile. And for that task it is essential that Carabineros have all the necessary tools to carry out their work,” he said.
-Meanwhile, “we are convinced that public infrastructure is one of the pillars for the development of countries and, in particular, the infrastructure for public safety is an essential element. In that sense, the MOP today is developing 99 infrastructure projects for safety, destined for Carabineros de Chile, the PDI, and the Ministry of Interior in its border crossings, in addition to our Border Plan Penitentiary infrastructure for the Ministry of Justice. ”
In the Metropolitan Region, the MOP has already delivered to Carabineros de Chile the possession of Malloco, the Southern Providence Police Station and the Carabineros Hospital in Ñuñoa. In addition, the Farfana police station is being built in Maipú; the School of NCOs, in Macul; The construction of the building of the General Directorate of Carabineros is being tendered, and the Cerrillos Police Station and the West Zonal Headquarters of Cerrillos are in the process of formulation.
The Undersecretary of Crime Prevention, Carolina Leitao, also stressed that “preventing is taking care and works such as these contribute to both police control and presence, and in prevention. Spaces such as these contribute to communities can organize themselves in a better way, work with Carabineros and the municipality; designing their security, preventive work, presence in the neighborhoods.”
Likewise, the general director of Carabineros, Marcelo Araya, recalled that “this is part of the operational strategy of the institution, to give greater presence, be able to control and control, but also intervene in those places where organized crime and crime have advanced. As an institution we will be strong in that aspect and we will continue to advance with respect to dismantling all these bands that do so much damage to the community”.
Finally, the mayor of Peñalolén, Miguel Concha, indicated that “this is a high standard work that allows strengthening security in this sector of our commune that is so important, that it also demonstrates the importance of the State to improve security in Peñalolén and throughout the Metropolitan Region. These works will bring greater endowment of police, greater police presence in all neighborhoods and at the same time, greater capacity for coordination to face the crime.”
