The opposition leader María Corina Machado recently said that the Economic sanctions imposed by the government of US President Donald Trump, against Venezuela they intend to show the world that the administration of Nicolás Maduro is a criminal system and that cannot continue operating with impunity.
In an interview with Rachel Campos-Duffy for the medium Fox newsMachado stressed that these measures intend to cut Maduro’s financing flow, with the aim of fracturing the regime from the inside.
«To the extent that you begin to close that flow, the regime begins to get into tension and fracture. When making decisions about licenses and secondary sanctions you are telling the entire world that Maduro is a criminal system that seeks to destabilize Latin America and the United States and there should be no substantive flows that finance this criminal system, ”said the opposition leader.
Machado said Maduro will not continue to operate in impunity
He affirmed that the sanctions to the Venezuelan oil system have had consequences within the government of Nicolás Maduro. “Indeed, President Trump has sent an unequivocal message to Maduro and his criminal system: they will not be able to continue operating with impunity. This has unleashed all kinds of reactions to the internal of the criminal structure of the regime,” he said.
“Maduro will not be able to continue operating with impunity, putting prey people, torturing, chasing. They stole a choice, traffic drugs, they allied with the enemies of the West and nothing happened. They felt they were unpunished and this has changed,” he added.
Regarding the appointment of Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, Machado said that it is also a message from the Trump administration about the importance of the region to guarantee the national security of the United States.
“The designation of Marco Rubio was a powerful message because he is a person who knows thoroughly what are the great challenges and threats we are living in Latin America and that from Latin America could be for the security of the United States,” Machado said.
