Madrid has dawned, on the second night of garbage strike, with full containers. The pre -agreement reached by the company and the unions after a “marathon” day did not convince the workers of the cleaning service, which rejected it with a large majority: about 80% of the more than 1,200 votes were against. The break continues indefinitely, although the conversations between these two actors involved have resumed to resolve “the nuances” that broke the communication “for 24 hours.”
Borja Carabante, the delegate of Urban Planning, Environment and Mobilitythis afternoon has gathered with the representatives of both parties to encourage the approach. Something that has been fulfilled, as pointed out after this meeting in which he was accompanied by the Cleaning Councilor and Green Areas, José Antonio Martínez Páramo. «The unions have stated that the discrepancy is in nuances. Therefore, they are not far and opens a door for an agreement to be reached as soon as possible and that this situation is not maintained, ”he said.
Although the delegate has assured this morning that “there begins to be accumulation” of waste in the streets and has asked the entities “to increase the resources” to comply with the minimum services and prevent the sanctioning regime from being “applied immediately”, after this meeting held at 6.30 pm in Cibeles has indicated that “fortunately the minimum services were being fulfilled”, so “there is no significant accumulation of garbage.”
During the early hours of Wednesday, 50% of the resources left from the city’s cleaning cantons, but they have not been able to comply with 50% of waste collected, the minimum services agreed with the Madrid town hall, Carabante specified in the morning.
On Tuesday, an attempt was made to end the cleaning services of the Madrid City Council. In principle, unions –CC.OO., UGT and, the majority, RSU– and the concessionary companies of the service – FCC, value (Sacyr subsidiary), Prezero, Action, Ohla and Urbaser – had reached a pre -agreement that included “a six -year agreement, with salary increases close to 4% per year, two days of free disposition and improvements in the vacations of all employees,” said this newspaper Pedro Morán, spokesman for workers. However, he already warned that the indefinite strike will remain standing until the workers’ assembly validated said agreement, which finally did not happen in this first attempt.
«The collection of garbage in Madrid never stops, with rain, or with snow, or under a scorching sun. We talk about an essential work that is done outdoors, at dawn, 365 days a year, with a huge physical charge and very high accident levels, ”said the spokesman for the majority union, Sebastián Bautista, to Europa Press.
-For her part, the PSOE spokeswoman at the Madrid City Council, Reyes Maroto, reproached the mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, his “pride” with the strike and considers that the meeting called by Carabante is late.
Collection calendar
While those involved already work to resume the negotiating table, the minimum services agreed are maintained, according to the delegate. This assumes that garbage trucks will only pass to collect home waste-remains (orange lid), organic (brown) and plastic-metal-brick (yellow)-on alternate days depending on the district.
Thus, on Thursday 24, on Saturday 26 and Monday, April 28, the waste will be collected in the districts of Centro, Arganzuela, Salamanca, Chamartín, Fuencarral-El Pardo, Chamberí, Moncloa-Aravaca, Carabanchel, Usera, Linear City, Vicálvaro and San Blas-Canillejas. Wednesday 23, Friday, April 25 and Sunday 27 will be the turn of the Retiro, Tetuán, Latina, Vallecas, Moratalaz, Hortaleza, Villaverde, Villaverde, Villa de Vallecas and Barajas districts.
The paper, the cardboard and the glass will not be affected by the strike of the cleaning workers of the Madrid City Council, so the usual service will be maintained. Nor will it affect clinical waste, dead animals and remains from markets and food galleries, schools, teaching centers, children’s nurseries and special residences.
