The movie ‘To our friends’, by Adrián Orr, and the short film ‘Of insular interest’, by Marta Torrecillahave won the Richard Leacock awards for the best feature film and the best short film in the 24th edition of the International Film Festival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The Canary Islands Cinema, composed of Juan Ruiz Antón, director of Tilde, organization for the promotion of Latin American cinema in Norway; Pablo Cayuela, name associated with Numax and programmer of this cooperative of Santiago de Compostela dedicated to the film exhibition in original version that also has a bookstore and an edition, postproduction and graphic design laboratory; and Seesi Bergeret García, a member of the L’Artativa Selection and Programming Committee, Independent Film Festival of Barcelona, made public their decision on the morning of this Monday, after having seen and valued the four feature films and the eleven short films that concurred in the edition.
Both awards were argued in the minutes and repeated in the reading of the record. In such a way that they wanted to state that the Richard Leacock award for the best feature film, endowed with 3,500 euros, has been granted to the work ‘to our friends’ by Adrián Orr, these days represented in the city by the actress Sara Toledo, «For the ability of the film to capture the emotional complexity of their characters and the people who give them life. Their experiences find the times, distances and sensitivity necessary to get on stage and reflect an intense and fleeting vital moment that we have all traveled, ”they explained.
On the other hand, the Richard Leacock Award for the best short film, endowed with 2,000 euros to the director, fell as an insular interest ‘, by Marta Torrecilla, present these days at the festival, “for bringing to the screen with an admirable efficiency of narrative media A topic of island and global interestas well as urgent, playing with contrasts and tensions between the natural and the artificial, and between the calm of the summer leisure and the climatic emergency ».
In addition to the awards failed by the official jury of the Canary Islands Cinema section, the participating titles in the section opted for a distribution award granted by the Audiovisual Producer Canaria Digital 104.
The jury of Digital Distribution Award 104composed of Jonay García and Domingo J. González, both filmmakers and founding partners of Digital Producer 104 and the Digital Cinematographic Distributor 104; and by the audiovisual translator Nayra Rodríguez, who also develops his work within the production and distribution as part of the company’s team, has awarded the prize to the short film presented by masters milbor ‘lnmaculada’.
According to the ruling signed by its components, the prize has been awarded “to capture with humor and tenderness the soul of unforgettable characters in a story full of faith, football and social criticism.”
