The City of Granada (PP) closes the Varela Night Center and leaves 40 homeless people on the street – Andaluz Espacio

The City of Granada (PP) has closed the Varela nightclub, which opened, precisely, in the middle of the cold, when winter arrived, to house the homeless. Now, months later, and as planned, the Consistory alleges, this center that had 40 places so that homeless people could sleep away from the cold of the street, this center closes and leaves without alternative to their, until now, inhabitants.

The mayor of the city, Marifrán Carazo, explained that this closure “is not a coincidence, but that it entered within the expected, since this shelter was enabled in winter so that the homeless people did not sleep in the weather. Even so, the mayor has assured that she will continue working with the different social groups to provide alternatives to homeless people: “It is something that was going to happen and we will continue working to act for homeless people,” he added.

These explanations, however, have not finished convincing in the socialist ranks, which have required the municipal government the “immediate reopening” of the shelter, closed in full blackout. “It is another gesture of the lack of sensitivity of the PP with the most vulnerable people in our city,” said Councilwoman Nuria Gutiérrez, who has denounced the situation facing these people who live in the street.

For the socialist, “the excuse that the cold has passed is only a new attempt to justify the outrage committed by Carazo, who has to understand that we talk about human beings who die in our streets, people who need public administrations in many cases and social workers.” To close this center is to leave many people lying, that again they have to face the loneliness of the Night in Granada, when in less than a few weeks we all know that the temperatures in our city will be unbearable and these people will have nowhere to go for this lack of sensitivity of the PP when prioritizing. ”
