Dionisio Estrada Ospino looks with nostalgia what remains of his house: wood pieces, cloth and a lot of ash. It was a wood and zinc construction, humble but cozy and the result of its daily effort as a cooter (lump transporter) in the Bazurto market in Cartagena.
He is 73 years old and several children, but he has always lived only in the ranch, as he tells him, and that he raised on Jiménez street of the Loma Fresca neighborhood, but on the afternoon of this Thursday, May 1, a fire took it off. Read: Eliana del Valle are dead, the woman who was missing
“It was like between 1 in the afternoon and 1:30 that the fire began. At about 2 the fire could be turned off. Dionisio’s house was burned along with that of his neighbor, now the two remained in the street,” said a neighbor of the victims.
The community called the Fire Department, but this because of the difficulty in reaching the area, they took a little longer; However, the neighbors mobilized and managed to turn off the flames, in addition to preventing more houses from spreading.
-“We are left with nothing, only with the clothes on, we could not even take the footwear. Everything was fast and dangerous and we do not know what this caused,” said the elderly.
Although at the time of the fire Mr. Dionisio was cooking with firewood in the house, he states that this action is certain to cause conflagration. The Fire Department has not manifested about what happened.
The truth is that Dionisio and his neighbor lost everything and now they only expect Cartagenera solidarity to recover from this loss since they have nowhere to sleep or what to dress.
