The company of Montreal, Rubberband, who runs the Mexican choreographer Victor Quijada, “has redefined the Breakdance codes and has revived the dance scene of Quebec,” he says Claudia Lavista, Dance Director UNAMduring the press conference to announce the presence of the group within the framework of the El Aleph Science and Art Festival.
On the importance of presenting the “Ever So Slightly Redux” piece, with original music by Jasper Gahunia and William Lamoureu, and ten artists on stage, Quijada says that he “is very interested in being in Mexico with the work. The last time we were turning in Mexico with my Rubberband work was in 2017 and before that was in 2012.”
For him, he was born and grew up in Los Angeles, without neglecting his Mexican roots, it means a lot, he has at this time as a professional, speaking of ideas and concepts and sharing space with Mexican artists.

“I do not know how to explain what it represents to find myself in Mexico next week, with these new works that also mean a lot, for the love and development of the company, which is great.”
Of the piece, he says that his name, Ever So Slightly Redux, means something equivalent to “just a little”: “When I started working the piece, which premiered in 2018, at the end, and that I started in 2016, in the United States there were many changes. I began to contemplate the issue of change, how will everything change? Trump;
-“At that time I broke a foot and for me it was a quick change, a blow. In those questions, in that search the piece was born,” he continues and wonders how those dramaturgical and choreographic notions can be illustrated in choreographic language:
“It comes from a mixture of what I have lived in my professional life. In childhood I discovered the culture of street dance and it was part of my life, my adolescence and adulthood. There was a path that led me to contemporary dance and a professional career as a classic dancer. I reached that point. When I founded the company it was such the effort to reconnect those two parts of me, which they are freely united.
Rubberband will present its piece “Ever So Slightly Redux”, May 17 and 18, at 6:00 p.m., in the Miguel Covarrubias room.
