Ecuador will demand from May 12 the certificate of vaccination against yellow fever to visitors to Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia and Peru, the Ministry of Health announced Thursday.
Yellow fever is an acute hemorrhagic viral disease that is endemic to tropical areas of Central and South America.
The portfolio pointed out through the social network X that for visitors who have been more than ten days in these countries, it will implement the obligation to present the International Certificate of Immunization against this disease, transmitted by mosquitoes and that can lead to kidney problems, bleeding and death.
It will also undertake a vaccination campaign in the Ecuadorian Amazon provinces (border with Colombia and Peru) and for people traveling to the jungle region.

Ecuador registered three cases of yellow fever until last Monday, according to the Minister of Health, Edgar Lama, who ruled out that the country is in a “state similar to Colombia and Peru, which present many cases.”
Two weeks ago, Colombia declared a health emergency for an outbreak of the disease, which left at least 34 deaths.
From the United States, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention raised the alert for yellow fever to South America and recommended vaccinating those who travel to certain parts of Bolivia, Colombia and Peru.
