Piastri just wants to win races and does not think about the F1 championship

Oscar Piastri is still committed to not getting carried away now that he leads the Formula 1 championship for the first time in his short career.

The McLaren pilot leads the classification with 10 points ahead after having won three of the four great previous awards, including the last two in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

And that despite a bad start of the season in Melbourne, where during much of the Piastri race it was behind Lando Norris in a McLaren 1-2, but finally ended ninth after making a spin in the last stages.

The 24 -year -old pilot, who is only in his third season, said before the Miami Grand Prix this weekend: “Winning the races is the exciting thing at this time.

I think that the leadership leadership is beautiful, but I think I said after Saudi, I am much more proud and satisfied with the work and the reasons why I am leading the championship than the fact of being leading the championship. ”

“Especially taking into account that Melbourne was not very good from the point of view of the points, I think it was fine in terms of execution, but taking into account that I started a little deficit and I have recovered it, I think that is the part that I like most, the reasons why we are leading the championship.”

Piastri is now considered the favorite for this year’s crown, despite the fact that this label belonged to Norris at the beginning of the year.

But since the British victory since the Pole in Melbourne, its state has declined, while Norris has had problems familiar with the MCL39.

Piastri believes that this is not due to a particular driving style that McLaren’s car favors, but that it is about working to extract the maximum of the car in any circuit.

“The car is an evolution of what we had last year, there are some things that are different, but there are many things that continue to do the same as last season,” he added.

“For my part, I feel that I have taken a step forward in all aspects. I think there has not been a specific thing in which I have tried to work since last year, I have only been trying to find those last hundredths of a second, where you can.

“At the moment, that is making a difference. I have still lost some poles for a few hundredths of a second, so I still have to continue investigating, but I think that has been the big difference for me so far.”

This difference has made Piastri surpassed Norris in three of the five major awards played in 2025, while the British only has a victory for the three of his teammate.

The other Grand Prix won it in Japan Max Verstappen, of Red Bull, third in the Championship and 12 Piastri points.
