The president of the United States, Donald Trump, returned to generate controversy publishing an image of his dressed as a potato in his social Truth network.

The image, which was created with the help of artificial intelligence (AI), was also disseminated by the White House in its verified of the social network X.

In the image, Trump appears with a white cassock, miter and a cross. It seems to be about to give a blessing, showing the right arm inclined to shoulder height with the index finger raised. The sources describe that it appears “dressed as potatoes.”

This publication arises at a key moment for the Catholic Church, which expects the celebration of a next Wednesday, May 7 to choose the new Pontiff, after the of Pope Francis on Monday, April 21.

The dissemination of this image by Trump occurs after he himself suggested that it would be a option to occupy the throne of St. Peter. According to the sources, on Wednesday he said from the White House: “I would like to be Pope. That would be my number one option. I think it would be a great Pope. No one would do it better than me.”

The image adds to a list of Trump actions that generate controversy. Previously, at the of Pope Francis in the , the protocol jumped by attending blue and not black, as the tradition dictates.

In addition to mentioning himself, Trump expressed his desire that the New York Archbishop, Timothy Michael Dolan, is the next Pope. He said that “there is a cardinal from a place called New York that is very good” and added “we will see what happens.”

Cardinal Dolan is one of the American prelates that will be present in the next conclave. The United States will have 10 cardinals represented in the .

Dolan already participated in the 2013 conclave, in which the Argentine cardinal Jorge Bergoglio (Pope Francis) was chosen, receiving two votes on that occasion. It will be present in this new conclave “until the mystery of the new Pontiff is resolved with the white smoke.”
