The Armenian-Star band of Heavy Metal, System of a Down, will perform tonight in Argentina as part of its “Wake Up! South American Stadium Tour” tour at the Vélez Sarsfield stadium. The drummer, John Dolmayan, recalled special moments with the Argentine public, mentioning that “should not be alive” due to tragic events in his childhood.
Dolmayan, in an interview with Cari Tokman of the Rock & Pop station, reflected on the challenges that his partner, Serj Tankian, faced due to health problems that complicated his presentations. However, he stressed that Tankian managed to recover to enjoy the shows again.
As for the public’s expectations, the drummer urged fans to attend “without expectations”, emphasizing that System of a Down is more about anticipation than about certainty. “You prepare for that and then you are rewarded with what we do.”
On the possibility of creating new music, Dolmayan was cautious, indicating that if the members of the band feel satisfied with what they have done, there is always the possibility of surprise in the future.
In line with their social commitment, the band organized entries and experiences with Dolmayan, whose funds will be destined for shelters for women. “I am Armenian and in my culture we value women; so I decided that this cause is vital,” he said.
Dolmayan also evoked his personal history, revealing that during his childhood in Lebanon he was close to death when a bullet passed near his bed. This experience forged his perspective of life and his appreciation for music.
Finally, the drummer highlighted his love for music in general, stating that influences of all genres have shaped his career. He culminated by sending congratulations to Rock and Pop for his 40 years of experience.
