In the year 2026 The fifth centenary of the creation of the Salamanca school is celebrated. To commemorate this event, the University of Salamanca has created the Tatiana-Salamanca Foundation Chair with the support of the Tatiana Foundation of Madrid. The director of this new chair, María Martín Gómez, explains that the initiative was born as a result of collaboration between both institutionsand is part of a broader project that seeks to recover the intellectual legacy of the Salamanca School. “I want to show my thanks to the Tatian Foundation for its support for this project,” he says.
The official presentation of the chair will take place on May 23where the complete programming of planned activities will be announced. As a preamble of these celebrations, A conference cycle has already been launched under the title “doing Salamanca School”which seeks to connect historical issues with contemporary debates. “The Salamanca school dealt with issues of enormous news, such as sovereignty and power, economic morals, justice, war, or political philosophy,” says Martín Gómez.
The renowned Harvard philosopher and professor Michael Sandel will open this conference cycle on May 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the University of Salamanca’s Paraninfo. Access will be free, although the capacity is limited and requires prior reserve through the email of the director of the chair: [email protected]. It should be noted that the conference will take place in English.
