The Spanish association of Patients with Nasal Polyposis and Medical Experts in Severe Asthma demand more multidisciplinary units to treat the disease.
Chronic rinosinusitis with nasal polyposis is an inflammatory disease of nostrils and sinuses, which is characterized by the presence of benign tumor polyps or tumor tissues in the nasal cavity that reduces the quality of life of people with this pathology. The symptoms of this disease -tos, cold, fatigue- are common and this causes people with these conditions not understood by their environment.
This was explained by Susana Cabañero, representative of the Spanish Association of Patients with Nasal Polyposis, during his speech in a dialogue organized by Servimedia and the Health Observatory on the ‘Social Impact of Serious Asthh’, with the collaboration of GSK.
The patients of severe asthma and nasal polynosis feel sick constantly, which causes them a sadness that sometimes derives in depressive processes. Therefore, patients claim that specialized units incorporate psychology professionals who help them cope with the reality of their illness.
Units
Both patients and asthma expert doctors claim the creation of multidisciplinary units that allow health professionals to treat patients in a personalized way and request that the National Health System drive the creation of these units in each province.
-Along these lines, from the Spanish Association of Patients with Nasal Polyphesis they pointed out the territorial inequality that makes patients with small populations be deprived of access to specialists who address their pathology in an integral way. The association arrives patients from small cities who feel “desperate.”
Cabañero recounted, in this sense, that the role of the association is fundamental not only for the patient who finds the support of other patients, but also for medical specialists who do not know the very existence of these multidisciplinary units with which cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia or Seville do.
