The Civil Guard has arrested this Sunday to the fourth and last crew of the narcolanche that on February 9, 2024 rammed an official vessel in the Bocana del Puerto de Barbate (Cádiz), causing the death of two civil guards.
The Civil Guard has reported in a statement that this last performance complements the arrest held last September 19 of the pilot of the same, and those held on November 8 of the same year of two others of the crew.
This Civil Guard investigation is being directed by the Court of Instruction number 1 of Barbate (Cádiz).
Sources of the Armed Institute have indicated that the detainee, of Moroccan nationality, remained in an unknown whereabouts and weighed an international arrest warrant since September of last year.
The fourth arrested has been located in the province of Cádiz, where it has been arrested by the Civil Guard in an operation that ends search months.
As the Mail of Andalusia has advanced, the detainee is expected to be brought to court on Monday. With this detention, all those involved in the event are already available to the Spanish judicial authorities.
The investigation began after the tragic incident in which the agents David Pérez and Miguel Ángel González lost their lives, and culminates now with the capture of the last suspect.
The events occurred on the night of February 9, 2024, when a narcolanche violently rammed a Zodiac group of the Group of Underwater Activities (GEAS) of the Civil Guard during an operation in the port of Barbate.
The impact caused the death of two agents and caused injuries to four others, in one of the most serious episodes related to drug trafficking in Cadiz waters in recent years.
The first arrests occurred on September 19, 2024, when the Civil Guard arrested the alleged pilot of the Narcolacha, Karim el Baqqali, 32 years old and of Moroccan nationality. After voluntarily surrendering, Baqqali confessed to having piloted the boat on the night of February 9 and described the overwhelming of “accident.”
The judge decreed his entry into provisional imprisonment, communicated and without bail, and charged two crimes of murder, four of murder in the degree of attempt, six of the attack, one of smuggling and the other of belonging to the criminal organization. Subsequently, on November 8, two other crew members were arrested and also entered provisional prison without bail.
Both, also of Moroccan nationality, are attributed to the same crimes as the pilot, according to the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA).
