María Corina Machado, leader of the Venezuelan opposition, said that Nicolás Maduro is a «Direct threat» for the safety of the western hemisphere. Machado’s statements were given during a virtual intervention in one of the panels of the XXIX World Congress of Law In Santo Domingo.
Machado participated in the panel entitled «Transnational organized crime and its impact on the region»which also was attended by the former president of Mexico, Felipe Calderón, the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador, Juan Carlos Holguín, and Héctor Schamls, advisor to the secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS).
As Machado denounced, «Organized crime is in power in Venezuela»and said that in the last year, – to his judgment – drug trafficking generated more than 8,000 million dollars In income within the country.
He also said that Venezuela has ceased to be just a transit place to become «A logistics, operational and protection center» Drug trafficking.
“Complicity at the highest level,” said Machado
According to what is raised in the panel, drug trafficking in Venezuela has a “Complicity at the highest level”a vision shared by the other panelists, who cataloged the Maduro regime as a «Narcoesteer».
Machado emphasized that “Every day that passes that criminal corporation expands and threatens beyond our borders”insisting that this is not just “A fight for Venezuelans”sino “A struggle for freedom and law”.
